The Shebenik-Jabllanicë Mountains are an area of great natural beauty and contain one of the most magnificent and breathtaking mountain sceneries in the Balkans. On the Albanian side they rise out of the Shkumbini valley at about 300m above sea level to the mountains and plateaux often up to 2000m, with numerous rivers and streams tumbling down the hills and valleys to the plains below. The Rreshpa-Shebeniku peak at 2244m is one of the highest mountains in Albania.

The park area is distinguished for its rich and diverse flora. The dominating plant species above 1000 m a.s.l are beech (Fagus sylvatica) and white fir (Abies alba), while oak forests dominate the mountain landscape between 500 and 1000 metres a.s.l. In the lower plains it is possible to find formations of other tree species such as aspen (Populus tremula), purple willow (Salix purpurea), and Norway maple (Acer platanoides). Two species of interest are the rare and endangered Dukagjini violet (Viola ducadjinika) and the endemic Genista (Genista hassertiana), however many sub-endemics are found here as well.

The Shebenik -Jabllanicë Mountains are considered to be one important site as well for the Balkan lynx (Lynx lynx balcanicus) in Albania. Nevertheless, here are found all the other mountainous mammals of Albania and the site there is a good presence of forest and alpine bird species.

The park’s fresh waters are home to the otter (Lutra lutra) and the brown trout (Salmo trutta fario). Avifauna of the forests and alpine zones is also present in good numbers.
