Birding in Ulcinj Salina in Montenegro, is a great tour for the ones that want to see another country, while staying in Albania. Ulcinj Salina is located just across the border in Montenegro, is one of the most important wetlands in the entire Adriatic region and a premier birdwatching destination in southeastern Europe. Once an active salt production site, the salina now forms an enormous open wetland complex of shallow basins, evaporation pools, mudflats, canals and dikes, creating ideal conditions for thousands of waterbirds throughout the year. Its wide, open landscapes and extensive feeding grounds make it especially attractive during migration seasons, when spectacular concentrations of birds can be seen.
The salina is particularly famous for its large numbers of waders, including stilts, avocets, sandpipers, plovers and many passage species. It is also one of the best places in the Adriatic to see Greater Flamingos, which have become increasingly regular in recent years. Herons, egrets, spoonbills, terns and gulls are common, while raptors such as marsh harriers, ospreys and peregrines often patrol the area. The open saltpans and shallow pools offer some of the best bird observation conditions in the region, making Ulcinj Salina a must-visit location for any birdwatcher.
With its vast horizons, rich birdlife and quiet walking paths along the dikes, Ulcinj Salina offers an exceptional day of birding and photography, making it one of the most rewarding wetlands in the Balkans.

The drive to Ulcinj Salina takes around 3 hours and 15 minutes, including border crossing time. On the way north, we may make a short 10–15 minute stop for facilities or to grab a coffee.
