Birding Albania is the first specialised birdwatching tour agency in the country, created by Albania’s leading ornithologist, Mirjan Topi. After completing his studies at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Montpellier, Mirjan returned to Albania and dedicated his career to conservation. At PPNEA, the country’s oldest and most respected conservation organisation, he established the bird conservation programme in the early 2010s and helped elevate it to international BirdLife Partnership status.
He is the co-author of the first and only complete field guide to the Birds of Albania, the author of the Birdwatcher’s Guide to Albania, and the writer of several other books and numerous scientific papers. Over the past decade, Mirjan has collaborated with some of the most renowned birding agencies from the United Kingdom and other countries, working as a tour leader and tour designer across Albania and the Balkans. Today, almost every international birdwatching itinerary in Albania has been designed or co-designed by him, drawing on his unmatched field knowledge and ability to locate the country’s best birding sites.
